The first step in becoming a hobby farmer is have some land. If you don't have some land a larger farmer may be willing to rent you some land. Probably the best option is to purchase some acreage from a real estate company specializing in farm land.
The government classifies a small farm that brings in less $1,000 a year. The government mention 2/3 of all farms are classified as small farms.
Crops
One of the first crops that you should consider is Asparagus. You buy plants and have to wait for the second or third year before you can harvest them. Asparagus is normally a pretty hardy plant.
